PURPOSE: A PMD(Polarization Mode Dispersion) compensator for separating PSP(Principal State of Polarization) control from DGD(Differential Group Delay) control is provided to independently control a PSP control and a DGD control by separating the PSP control from the DGD control, thereby reducing time for compensating a PMD. CONSTITUTION: A polarization controller(110) converts a polarization state and a direction of a received optical signal. The first PBS(Polarization Beam Splitter)(120) branches the converted optical signal into two output polarizations, transmits the first optical signal to the first path, and transmits the second optical signal to the second path, respectively. The first optical tap(150) inputs the optical signal of the second path, branches a portion of the signal, and transmits the rest portion of the signal. An optical detector(160) converts the branched optical signal into an electric signal. A band pass filter(170) filters a specific frequency component. A PC(Polarization Controller)(180) controls such that the first and second polarization components of the optical signal can be arrayed on two axes of the first PBS(120). The first polarization component proceeds to the first path, and the second polarization component proceeds to the second path.
