The method for determining the state of growth and viability of a bacterial FTsZ population, whether natural or cultivated, is based on determining the existence of FTsZ rings in actively growing individual cells. The detection of the FTsZ ring can be effected by specific antibodies which recognize FTsZ, and are associated with fluoro-substances detectable by fluorescent microscopy by means of immunofluorescence microscopy.
