PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide digital zoom capability by which a resolution in a portable electronic imaging device is improved. PSOLUTION: This imaging device is provided with a lens 130 which forms an optical image, has a higher magnification factor in a central region than in an edge region, and thereby causes barrel distortion in the optical image; at least one imaging sensor which converts the optical image to a digital image having relatively higher resolution in a first portion corresponding to the central region of the lens 130 than in a second portion corresponding to the edge region of the lens 130; a first logic 50 for extracting a cropped digital image from within the first portion; and a second logic 155 for correcting the barrel distortion in the cropped digital image.
