PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to locate a ground fault point with high precision, though a fault locating method is of a current shunting ratio method or an impedance method. PSOLUTION: This transmission line fault locator is provided with a current shunting ratio/impedance computing part 81 that obtains a current shunting ratio 'k' or impedance 'k' for every instantaneous value based on actually measured data of a transmission line and averages the current shunting ratio 'k' and the like during a prescribed period of time after the occurrence of a fault, and a fault locating part 82 that locates a ground fault/short-circuit fault point based on the average current shunting ratio 'k' obtained. The fault locating part 82 obtains simulated current data in assumption that a fault occurred using a system simulator and obtains a simulated current shunting ratio 'k' and the like from the data. While making the simulated fault point change on the system simulator, the fault locating part 82 determines the simulated fault point that corresponds to the simulated current shunting ratio 'k' as an actual fault point, by comparing the simulated current shunting ratio 'k' corresponding to the simulated fault point with the average current shunting ratio 'k' and the like one by one, and by searching a simulated current shunting ratio 'K' and the like to which both ratios are nearest.
