PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a constitution for operating a font discrimination processing of character units for a music symbol constituted of slanting characters and standard characters coexisting on a score, and to obtain a high recognition ratio for the music symbol in which those fonts coexist. ;SOLUTION: In this method, a score image is read, the music symbol is recognized, and data for performance or score display are prepared. At that time, the label of a character symbol or a symbol including a character among the music symbols to be recognized is extracted, and recognized by pattern matching. Afterwards, the inclinations of the estimated regression straight lines of those symbols on the label are detected, and whether or not the font of the symbol is slanting is judged according to the difference of the inclinations.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
