PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for producing an apatite-coated base material by which an apatite coating can be produced in such a manner that orientation is selected.;SOLUTION: An apatite coating is formed while applying a magnetic field to a base material 5. In this case, the intensity and direction of the magnetic field, or time, etc., are controlled so as to be combined, by which the apatite coating is formed so that the specified crystal axis thereof is orientated to a direction almost vertical or almost parallel to the base material 5. The production apparatus 1 consists of a vessel 3 charged with an aqueous solution 2 obtained by dissolving an apatite raw material, a superconductive electromagnet 4 arranged around the vessel 3, a base material 5 inside the aqueous solution 2, and a power source 8 heating the base material 5. The apatite coating orientated respectively to the c plane and a, b planes can efficiently be formed when the magnetic field to be applied is controlled to 1 to 12 T, and the base material 5 is arranged to almost the parallel direction and almost the vertical direction to the magnetic field.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
