Motor vehicle gearbox has an oil level gauge, signal processing means and memory means for recording reference heights, measured with the oil level gauge, together with corresponding angles of inclination of the gearbox. The values are based on the last horizontal reference filling level when the vehicle was parked in a level location. The invention also relates to a motor vehicle with a manual gearbox in which the clutch has an actuator and control mechanism that control its operation during clutching when the vehicle is started up on a slope or used on a slope so that clutch wear is minimized. Gear changes can equally be controlled.
