The apparatus consists of a horizontal platform (2) rotated about a vertical axis (X-X') by a drive (4), a screen (6) in the shape of a portion of a sphere with centres of curvature offset laterally relative to the platform's vertical axis, an optokinetic stimulator (10) and a pivoting system. The optokinetic stimulator comprises a sphere (35) that is rotated about its axis (Y- Y') by a drive to project light images onto the screen, and the pivoting system enables the stimulator to move relative to the sphere and platforms' axes.
