The system uses data sequences (7,8) creating a pre-classification. The system for searching and selecting information from a digital stream of data transmitted in packets includes formation of sequences (7,8) creating a pre-classification. This is used with the flux of data (6) in order to allow digital filters (15) implanted in the receiving station (12) to select data to be retained from that which has been searched. The pre-classification may operate by the use of key-words which may be inserted into the fields situated within the fields of the headers of the data. The data may be transmitted from a satellite (14) using MPEG coded data, the key-words being inserted in the headers of these packets.
