A device for relaxing the skeletal muscles, in particular of the cervical and lumbar vertebrae, has a foam mattress (1) whose upperside is provided with salient transverse ribs (2) inclined in the direction of the feet and a foam pillow whose upper side is provided with salient transverse ribs (2') inclined in the direction of the top of the head. The transverse ribs (2, 2') of both foam parts inclined in divergent directions stretch the vertebral column in two opposite directions and increase the intervals between the vertebrae, releasing and relieving clamped nerve ends and overstressed intervertebral disks.
