The device (2) has at least one layer (3) enclosing the object (1) in annular manner that carries a material that forms a foam under the effects of heat and/or fire. The fire protection material is worked into the carrier layer. The carrier layer can have a cloth or fleece structure and be penetrated by the fire protection material.
