Modular tufting machine for the production of carpets, includes needles arranged in line defining needle plane, and alternate needle holders extending in opposite directions from needle plane
A modular tufting machine has needles arranged in a line defining a needle plane, and alternate needle holders extending in opposite directions from the needle plane. Each needle holder has a latched pin, and reciprocating bar(s) has a mechanism for engaging with the latched pin to selectively drive a latched needle holder in the needle reciprocation direction. A modular tufting machine (10) comprises a main body with bar(s) (26, 28) reciprocable in a needle (58) reciprocation direction perpendicular to the direction in which a backing medium is fed through the machine, and needle modules. Each module comprises a frame that is fixedly attachable to the main body. Needle holders (42, 44, 48) are slidably supported in each frame for reciprocation in the needle reciprocation direction. A needle is attached to each needle holder. The needles are arranged in a line defining a needle plane (46). Alternate needle holders extend in opposite directions from the needle plane. Each needle holder has a latched pin (32). Reciprocating bar(s) has a mechanism for engaging with the latched pin to selectively drive a latched needle holder in the needle reciprocation direction.
