A hierarchy comprising sequence of levels each having an objective function associated with a set of constraints, is accessed. A mathematical programming model comprising a set of initial constraints, and representing a pricing plan for a group of item is determined. The objective function of the last level of the sequence, is optimized to yield an optimized result for generating optimized pricing plan. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) optimized pricing plan generating system; and (2) software for generating optimized pricing plan.
