The distance between gripper-arms (7) is adjustable by means of an actuator or telescopic drive (5) incorporating a blocking appliance (1).. The gripper has safety clutches (8). The blocking appliance is formed by a cog wheel in constant active contact with the actuator or telescopic drive and positioned on an axle. A cog wheel segment swivels on a swivel axle and is adjustable in height on at least two planes. The cog wheel segment is formed by at least two thrust pieces (4) between which the segment is positioned.
