In a bobbin-winding process, two bobbins are mounted on spindles on a single turntable base plate. A second bobbin is wound while a first full bobbin is removed and replaced by an empty third bobbin. When full, the second bobbin advances to the removal point and the empty third bobbin to the winding point. The sequence is regulated by sensors which especially. are linked to a single sensor function check-system. In the process, the sensor function check-system compares the is-condition of each sensor with the desired target-condition in the operational thread-winding sequence. Also claimed is a commensurate automated assembly with a turntable (11) having two bobbin (15) winding spindles (12, 13) and a drive unit (17). Thread is presented to the respective bobbin by a guide (24). The assembly has sensors (20, 21) and actuators determining the sequence of operation and a sensor-condition check-system (29) which further gives an alarm if it detects a variation from the target condition.
