The device (12) has a burner (14) supplied by combustion air and fuel feeds (16,18) and a controller (24) suitable for controlling the feeds depending on a signal transmitted by a signal device (40) for determining the air density, which is designed to determine the geographic position of the mobile heater, from which the geodetic height and thence a related base air density can be determined. AN Independent claim is also included for the following: a vehicle with an inventive device and a method of providing a signal re the density of the air to be supplied.
