Determining the anisotropy of geological formations underground from a seismic three-dimensional set consisting of a number of traces comprises assigning a predetermined three-dimensional asymmetric environment with several data points to form an analysis point; and calculating correlating values in the environment for the local inclination angle and the inclination azimuth. Preferred Features: The maximum and/or minimum of the correlation values are assigned to the analysis point. Directional azimuths of the rotation belonging to the maximum and/or minimum of the angle-dependent correlation values are assigned to the analysis point. The directional azimuth of the rotation is uniformly represented in the angle region of 0-80 deg .
