The invention relates to a device for extruding a profile or a similar billet (50) from a bolt or bar (30) to be extruded that is guided in a recipient bore (16) of a recipient (14) and that is extruded by means of an extrusion die (10) through a shaping section of a shaping tool (38) in the direction of extrusion (x) that can be axially displaced relative to the recipient (14) and that is adapted to be adjusted and fixated in relation thereto. The front face of the recipient facing the shaping tool (38) is provided with a shearing knife and a shearing blade is disposed to be guided across the orifice of the recipient bore (16) and/or the tool surface facing the same. The gap (28) adjusted between the recipient (14) and the shaping tool (38) is associated with at least one heating device (64) that can be inserted therein and/or with at least one shaping element that is placed on the shearing surface and that can be configured as a shearing knife as well as a heating device. The bar (30) is pushed from the recipient (14) in the direction of extrusion (x) by a protruding length and the slice-like section of the free bar end thereby produced is shorn off and removed together with an extrusion remainder remaining from the preceding bar (30) on the tool surface facing away from the direction of extrusion. Once the shorn surfaces produced by shearing and optionally heated are placed one on top of the other, air or similar flowing agents present on said surfaces are radially discharged together with the contaminations that are present in detached form between the shearing surfaces or during pressure build-up. The connecting zone of the bar ends produced under this pressure build-up is then advanced towards the shaping section.
