The present invention relates to a sewage and wastewater treatment system which improves the efficiency of nitrogen and phosphorus removal by improving the standard activated sludge process of an existing sewage and wastewater treatment plant and adding and supplying an external carbon source.;The process improvement by the present invention enables the removal of eutrophication agents such as nitrogen and phosphorus, as well as organic matter, without the addition of a separate advanced treatment process in existing sewage and wastewater treatment plants, which can greatly reduce water treatment costs. Effluent quality standards for sewage treatment plants will also be easier and more economically compliant.
