PURPOSE: An IEEE 1394 audio/video interface device having a small chip area, improving the efficiency of data management is provided to reduce an area of a control circuit for controlling FIFO memories and fix the size of synchronous packet data. CONSTITUTION: A host interface unit(21) exchanges data with an external host device. An application interface unit(22) exchanges data with an external audio/video applied device. A link-physical layer interface unit(23) exchanges data with an external physical layer connected to a cable. An asynchronous data processor(24) is connected with the link-physical layer interface unit for controlling transmission and reception of asynchronous data. A synchronous data processor(25) is connected with the link-physical layer interface unit for controlling transmission and reception of synchronous data. Asynchronous transmit and receive FIFO memories(26a,26b) store asynchronous data inputted through the host interface unit, and store asynchronous receive data through the link-physical layer interface unit and the asynchronous data processor. A synchronous transmit FIFO memory(27) stores synchronous transmit data inputted through the application interface unit. A synchronous receive FIFO memory(28) stores synchronous receive data inputted through the link physical layer interface unit and the synchronous data processor.
