A method for managing documents comprises a first step of generating a document by means of a computer system (3) for issue to parties external (19) to the computer system. An expected return-time is then associated with the document. If the external party (19) returns the document late, that is if the document is not entered into the computer system by the associated return-time, an alert is generated. The system can be used by medical practitioners, where the document is issued to patients to complete. Using this system, if there is considerable delay between the document being issued and the patient returning the information, the accuracy of information may be classified as doubtful.
