Bolt release for firearms of the type Heckler & Koch G36 and SL8, hereunder all other firearms with a similar bolt catch (1), characterized by the bolt catch being extended downwards into the trigger guard (3). The cartridge follower in an empty magazine lifts the catch w/release up (A) so that the bolt is retained in its rearward position. In order to release the bolt, the release is pressed down towards the bottom of the trigger guard (B). This causes the bolt catch to be pulled down and out of engagement with the bolt. The release follows the inside curvature of the trigger guard and is thereby out of the way and protected from stress or impact when the catch is not activated. The release may be operated equally irrespective of which hand is used. The surface of the release is furnished with ribs or checkering to aid in its safe operation.
