Wrapping a bale of hay or straw with layers of plastic film comprises wrapping a corner between the envelope surface and the end surface of the bale with plastic film from plastic rolls whose axis of rotation is held in a horizontal position while the bale is rotated to cause the plastic roll to bend over the corner of the bale partly on the envelope surface and the end surface of the bale. An independent claim is also included for an apparatus for wrapping a bale of hay or straw, i.e. a straw fodder bale, with plastic comprising a support for the bale to be wrapped; plastic roll (s) (16); a controlling element (15) for stretching a plastic film wound off from the plastic layer about the bale; another controlling element (17) for changing the position of the axis of rotation of the plastic roll; and guide and pressing roller (19, 20) for guiding the plastic film as it is being moved over a corner.
