PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a three-dimensional city model generation device and a method of generating a three-dimensional city model capable of accurately detecting a roof edge line such as a gable.;SOLUTION: An edge detecting part 80 detects a boundary edge between a building and a ground based on a range data provided with the three- dimensional coordinate value of the surface shape of a city space. A thinning part 40 thins the edge. A vectorizing part 50 vectorizes the thinned outline edge. The plane of the roof of the building is divided by an area dividing part 60. The planes is respectively applied to the areas adjoining mutually by a plane applying part. Roof edges formed between the adjoining areas are detected by a roof edge detecting part 80. A polygonizing part 90 polygonizes based on the outline edge obtained by the vectorizing part 50 and the detected roof edge. A three-dimensional model generating part 100 generates a three- dimensional model based on the polygonized data.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
