PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a silicon carbide raw material for efficiently manufacturing a castable refractory containing silicon carbide, which is very fine and excellent in corrosion resistance, and to obtain the raw material for the monolithic refractory.;SOLUTION: The silicon carbide raw material for the monolithic refractory giving superior drying property and corrosion resistance is characterized in that its average particle size is 0.05-3 mm, that the content of free silicon is 0.1-1 mass%, and that the proportion of the silicon carbide raw material having a particle size of ≤0.25 mm to that having a particle size of ≤0.045 mm is ≤20 mass%. The raw material for the monolithic refractory is obtained by adding 0.5-10 mass% (as an external percentage) of an alumina cement as a binder to 100 mass% of a refractory aggregate comprising 5-80 mass% of the above silicon carbide raw material and the balance of alumina and/or spinel.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
