摘要
A duct that is buoyant in air extends to high altitude and is supplied at its lower end with air that has been heated by solar energy, the air being caused to rise up the centre of the duct to generate a flow. Turbo generators are provided to generate electricity. The duct may comprise a central tube surrounded by an annulus 3, supplied with static, pressurised and heated air 7A. Solar heat may be collected via a transparent roof 13, and transmitted indirectly to the air, using water, and the duct may be secured to a rotatable pontoon 12. Air may enter the duct via an array of ducts 10, and an operations hall 11, may be provided. During storm conditions the geometry of the duct may be changed by adding a length 18, that causes the lower part of the duct to adopt a relatively shallow angle compared to the rest of the duct (figure 2B). The duct may be provided with computer controlled inflatable fins to provide stability in winds and is particularly suited to use in the Doldrums. Electricity may be supplied to users by a transmission arrangement involving supporting phases and the neutral on separate pylons of insulating plastic.
