The video image display has a number of elementary cells with the image formed using sub sweeps during which elementary cells may be illuminated or extinct. A sequence of principle images (I-1,I) are formed with intermediate images formed from the main images and compensated for movement. The sequence of images from the principal and intermediate images are displayed over a time period lower than the scan period.
