Automatic control of cleaning of glass surfaces in a motor vehicle adapting to different levels of soiling, uses optical detection of coating or water on windscreen to activate windscreen wipers and washers
The control has a light source (1), opaque and aqueous stain channels, and an ambient light detector (2b). Each stain channel has an optical detector (2). The distance between detectors and source is based on Backscatter angles (C,D) of opaque stains and reflection (A,B) of aqueous stains. An electronic unit (4) accepts detector signals and controls operation of wipers and windscreen washer.
