Colloidal dispersions of cerium and another rare earth to transition metal compound also comprises amino acid component which is bonded to the colloidal particles either by chemical complexation, electrostatically or by adsorption with the particle surface. The NH2 function of the acid is free and is thus protonizable improving the colloidal stability of the dispersion. Colloidal dispersions of a compound of Ce or a compound of Ce and another element M chosen from Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Al, Ga, Zr, and rare earths other than Ce coupled with an amino acid, the acid being partly bonded to the particles of the dispersion. The amino acid component is bonded to the colloidal particles either by chemical complexation, electrostatically or by adsorption with the particle surface. The NH2 function of the acid is free and is thus protonizable improving the colloidal stability of the dispersion. An Independent claim is also included for the preparation of the dispersions.
