The system includes a control unit (2) for applying to the aircraft a controlled heading, device (7) for determining the effective speed (V) of the aircraft, device (11,13) for comparing the effective speed (V) with maximum and minimum authorised speeds, and device (9) for calculating, as a function of the speed comparisons, two modified control values for aligning the effective speed within the maximum and minimum speed range. By modification, device (10), with priority action, imposes on the control device (2), one of the modified control values, if such an action is necessary to maintain the aircraft speed inside the authorised speed range.
