Surface treatment of a preformer (1) fabricated in an installation for fabricating or recharging preformers (1) with a support core (2) is claimed. The installation incorporates at least one means (3) for horizontally rotating the support core (2) of the preformer (1) which is mounted between two mounting points (3a,3b), a plasma torch and material coating system (5) arranged radially to the support core (2) and having a relative axial movement parallel to the support core (2). The preformer (1) is fabricated or recharged by successive passes of the plasma torch with the coating material. At the end of these passes with the coating material and/or at the end of the sepn. of the preformer, at least one pass with the plasma torch without the coating material is automatically and without cooling effected in order to vitrify the deposits (7,9,10) of condensn. soot. The preformer produced by this method is also claimed.
