Glass ceramic sintered product obtained by calcining a molded body made from a mixture of glass powder and ceramic powder consists of a gahnite crystal phase; a celsian crystal phase containing needle-like crystals with an aspect ratio of at least 3; and a crystal phase made from AlN, Si3N4, SiC, Al2O3, ZrO2, 3Al2O3.2SiO2 and/or Mg2SiO4 and having an open porosity of not more than 0.3%. An Independent claim is also included for a process for the production of a glass ceramic sintered product, comprising forming a glass powder containing (in wt.%) 10-35 SiO2, 1-20 Al2O3, 6-25 MgO and/or ZrO, 5-30 B2O3 and 10-40 BaO, mixing the glass powder with a ceramic powder in the form of AlN, Si3N4, SiC, Al2O3, ZrO2, 3Al2O3.2SiO2 and/or Mg2SiO4 in a weight ratio of 20-90: 80-10, molding into a molded body, and calcining at not more than 1000 deg C.
