Detection of faulty acceleration sensors used in vehicle stability control systems by detection of a missing or low sensor output signals by period scanning of output signals and analysis using a logic circuit
Failure of an acceleration sensor caused by sticking of its weight is detected by software using the output signal of the acceleration sensor (11-13). When a vehicle is in motion the acceleration sensor causes a constant small signal to be generated by the acceleration sensor and if the weight becomes stuck then the signal is no longer generated. The software detects a lack of signal and generates an error detection signal. Device comprises a device (1) for periodic sampling of the output signals of acceleration sensors (11- 13) and a device for generation of an error signal (3) when the vehicle speed is greater than or equal to a given value and change in the output signal of the acceleration sensors is less than or equal to a given value.
