An artificial respiration device comprising a respiratory device which provides a gas flow for respiration at an outlet; an inhalation tube which is connected to the outlet on one end; a double lumen endotracheal tube whereby one lumen thereof is connected to the other end of the inhalation tube on the end thereof which is furthermost from the patient; flowmeters for measuring the gas flows in both lumens of the endotracheal tube; pressure gauges for measuring the pressure on the ends of both lumens which are furthermost from the patient; an evaluation device for determining the flow resistance in a cross-flown lumen on the basis of the gas flow measured therein and the measured pressure; and a device for outputting information on the flow resistance of the lumen.
