Welding materials using a laser beam comprises directing two laser focussing points (12, 13) in the welding point (20) or in the region of the melt produced around the welding point. Preferred Features: The distances of the focussing points relative to each other and to the welding point can be freely selected. The focussing points can be produced by a single laser beam which is split into two focussing points. The laser beam is produced using a CO2 laser, preferably an Nd: YAG laser, especially a high performance diode laser.
