Method for image processing of X-ray images, especially for medical fluoroscopy, in which a single high dose exposure (HD) is made, which the remaining low dose images (LD1, LD2) can use to recognize the salient features. The image quality of the single exposure is such that pattern-matching algorithms can be used and a pattern within the image automatically (4) and non-automatically (3) recognized. An Independent claim is included for an apparatus for image processing of digital X-ray images such that a single image can be used to provide a pattern for subsequent lower dose rate exposures
