The car bonnet has a peripheral frame (2) and reinforcing U-profiles (3) inside this. The profiles and frame have a crumple zone (K) near the front of the bonnet to reduce the impact of a collision with a child and a second crumple zone (E) further back to reduce the impact of a collision with an adult. These are formed by lines of weakness in the walls of the profiles and frame.
