Motor vehicle pedestrian protector uses multiple airbag with bonnet and windscreen chambers flow-coupled to raise bonnet and then cover part of screen when activated.
A multiple airbag (6) has a bonnet chamber (8) coupled by flow transfer (7) to a windscreen chamber (9). When not in use the airbag folds up close to the screen at the rear of the bonnet but in response to the safety device (2) off a gas producer (5) the air first inflates the bonnet chamber (8) to raise the bonnet (3) or fold a front bonnet top out in the rear edge (7) of the bonnet up to a set air pressure in chamber (8) at which point air transfers to the windscreen chamber (9) to blow this out over at least part of the screen. The airbag folds up onto the coachwork when not in use. If the bonnet is raised, the airbag lies folded between bonnet front top part (30) and bonnet underside (31).
