Software protection, especially for ensuring that downloaded software, such as software sold via the Internet, is not illegally copied by providing downloaded software with a unique identifier based on the bios and OS IDs
Method is based on determining whether a transmitted or downloaded and installed software package is loaded on the computer on which it was initially installed. The testing involves both the existing operating system as well as the computer hardware itself. This ensures that the software is running on an actual computer, the one to which it was downloaded, and that it has not been fraudulently copied. The inventive method ensures that the software will only run on a particular hardware configuration using a program dongle. A unique number identifying number is assigned to the software based on the bios and operating system serial numbers, etc.
