Test for the vitality of fungal mycelia, useful for, e.g. detection of dry rot, sets up a conditioned chamber, on site, to create optimum growth conditions to establish their presence or not after a sufficient growth time
To test for the vitality of fungal mycelia, where the components to be studied are released or made accessible, the conditions at the test site are set in terms of temperature, gas concentration and humidity which are optimum for the growth of the fungus being investigated. To test the vitality of fungal mycelia, the humidity at the test site is set at 20-40%, and the temperature is maintained at 21-24 deg C. The gas concentration is increased by the use of nitrogen (N2). A special conditioned chamber is used at the test site, to give the optimum fungus growth conditions. The fungus or its components are shrouded in film, or other suitable material, for the humidity and temperature conditions to be set within the film at optimum levels. An Independent claim is included for a flexible test chamber, which can be matched to the test material, incorporating the controls for temperature and humidity, and a nitrogen feed.
