Deforming tool consists of a base body made from a metallic base alloy with a wear resistant anti-adhesion coating formed as a gradient layer made from titanium and titanium-aluminum nitrides. The ratio of aluminum to titanium continuously increases from 1: 1000 to 1: 1. An Independent claim is also included for a process for the production of the deforming tool comprising applying the titanium aluminum nitride layer in a PVD process. Preferred Features: The gradient layer has a hardness of at least 2000 HV at above 400 deg C. A hexagonal closely packed lattice structure is present in the boundary surface between the base body and the gradient layer.
