Process for working-up oiled-up debris, scale and other similar material comprises feeding a scrubbing liquor in a counter current manner with a flow of the debris through a scrubbing device, carrying out preliminary desiccation, drying and passing the scrubbed debris through a drying region for post-drying to oxidize residual adhesions from the scrubbing liquor. An Independent claim is also included for a device for carrying out the process. Preferably the residual adhering hydrocarbons are oxidized using heat treatment. The scrubbed debris is fed through a directly fired dryer.
