A plant for pyrolyzing refuse comprises a set of pyrolysis chambers, each of which has (i) an afterburner connected to a central off-gas manifold and (ii) a gas inertizing device (not defined). A plant for pyrolyzing refuse comprises: (a) a set of pyrolysis chambers (1) which receive inertized refuse from a charging device and in which the refuse is carbonized with hot flue gas; (b) a gas withdrawal system comprising an off-gas manifold (4), an afterburner for burning the mixture of pyrolysis gas and flue gas from the pyrolysis chambers, and control and mixing devices for producing a constant-temperature recycle gas; (c) a gas outlet for withdrawing excess gas for energy generation; (d) a gas supply manifold (7) for introducing the constant-temperature recycle gas into the pyrolysis chambers; and (e) a system of fans, temperature and pressure control devices and valves for controlling the gas flow. Each pyrolysis chamber has (i) its own afterburner (8) connected to the central off-gas manifold and (ii) a gas inertizing device (not defined).
