Sample carrier has receiving surfaces (2) lying in a common upper plane separated by intermediate chambers (4) with base surfaces arranged in a lower deeper lying plane of a base body (1). An Independent claim is also included for a process for the production of a sample carrier comprising forming the intermediate chambers by mechanical separation such as cutting or engraving, or by using a laser or chemical etching. Preferred Features: The carrier is made from metal, ceramic, glass, plastic or crystal, especially silicon. The receiving surfaces are made from gold. The base body has markings (6, 7) in a primary edge region for orientating the sample receiving surfaces.
