Process for melting a metal in a melting crucible (1) and solidifying the melt to form an ingot (2) comprises using the crucible as a mold after melting the metal and carrying out the solidification of the metal in the same crucible. An Independent claim is also included for a device for melting a metal in a melting crucible (1) and solidifying the melt to form an ingot (2). Preferred Features: Separate cooling chambers (3, 4) are arranged in the crucible with a funnel (5) covering the chambers. The crucible consists of two parts separated in the vertical direction.
