Returnable coin lock (1) for a supermarket trolley (3) has a housing (7) with a space (8) into which a single unit lock can be inserted. Security elements (13, 14) are incorporated in the housing to hold the lock in place. One security element (13) is dimensioned so that it breaks off or loosens another security element (14) when a force is applied against it against the lock insertion direction. If the lock is hit sharply from a direction opposite to the insertion direction, then the securing elements will either break off or loosen so that the lock can be readily removed.
