Loose material, such as hay and straw, is first sieved off. Odors generated are passed through a closed system to a biofilter. The remaining bedding material, consisting of sand or biodegradable plastic beads, is washed and biologically purified. Solid excrement is treated separately from liquid excrement, which is treated in a sewage treatment plant.
