The method involves forming direction-specific sound characteristics into a stereo signal and analyzing it, whereby binaural time differences are determined with a cross-correlation technique in a lower region of the acoustic spectrum for right/left orientation. Based on the same stereo signal, spectral differences are analyzed in a higher frequency range for front/rear differences. Independent claims are also included for the following: an arrangement for implementing the method.
