The lens system, for an X-ray machine, takes up to 5% of the image in an image amplifier phosphor layer (15) and preferably to infinity. A further following lens forms the image at a camera. The lens has a barrel-shaped distortion in infinity which compensates for the cushion distortion at the camera. The lens has at least one aspherical surface (10) to correct image faults on a given distortion. The physical diaphragm is after the final surface of the lens, in the radiation direction.
