The method involves continuously acquiring image data for persons in commercial premises on-line, preferably with a digital camera, forming characteristic patterns using face recognition software and outputting a warning if the characteristic pattern from the image data agrees significantly with a pattern already stored in a database. The method can be used on the membership of an organization and the database updated at regular intervals. The method involves continuously acquiring image data for persons in commercial premises on-line with at least one optical detection unit, preferably a digital camera, forming characteristic patterns using face recognition software for comparison with patterns in a database and outputting a warning if the characteristic pattern from the image data agrees significantly with a pattern already stored in the database. The method can be used on the membership of an organization and the database updated at regular intervals.
